A look at the evolution in railroad locomotive technology, from super steam to super Diesel to high speed passenger travel, including some experimental ideas not yet in actual railroad practice.  Several areas of development are covered;
1) Super Steam - Union Pacific Challenger and Big Boy giant steam locomotives from 1930's to late 1950's,  about 12 minutes,
dealing with articulated locomotives, showing details on how they work.
2) Super Diesels - from 1950's onward, new technology including multiple unit control, electronics, wheel slip control, shop forces
for maintenance, Locomotive engineering with computer aided design, about 14 minutes.
3) High speed passenger trains, USA and foreign - TGV in France at speeds about 200 mph, experimental runs at 320 mph,
4) MAGLEV trains in Germany - 300 mph using special magnetic levitation technology without flanged wheels or rails, not presently
in service, about 9 minutes. ( Other MAGLEV trains are operational in China, Korea, not covered in this video ).
5) Future? - Suggestions are included.
